He has 108 special techniques so far and can copy any move an opponent uses against him, like Kenichi's "Saikyou (Strongest) Combo" and "Saikyou Combo 2," Soutenshu and Miu's "HyÅ�i Kazekirihane." He and Kushinada know each other from the past. Despite being the eldest and most powerful of the dojo, Hayato has proven to be rather irresponsible at times. He tends to recklessly spend the dojo's money on personal items and gets carried away whenever he has an opportunity to showcase his strength. Sometimes he's seen eating candy, especially lollipops. Also he mentions that he is getting weaker. After he used .0002% against Miu and Kenichi he told them that he needed a rest after using that much power. In Battle 231 he can use bi-vocal skill that can allows him to use two voices to speak. One time he used it for a duet at a karaoke bar apparently. Hayato can also use the left and right side of his body to perform separate actions and movements. In Battle 233 he is shown capable of reducing his voice to a degree where only one individual can hear his voice. With these abilities many, if not everyone, believe he is not human.".

However, he soon grew tired of playing after his 'trauma', and instead, decided to join the Mafia. Unfortunately, since he was considered to be a mere pianist, no one wanted to accept him into their family; the fact that he was an oriental half-breed lessened his chances of finding a willing Mafia family to take him in. To become stronger, he sought advice from Dr. Shamal, who, at the time, was working for his family. Hayato seemed to have looked up to Shamal, to the point that Shamal believed Hayato to have copied his hairstyle, and even wanted to learn his assassination technique, the Trident Mosquito. When Josuke attacks him, Kira is forced to recall Killer Queen to protect him, canceling the effects of the time loop. During the battle, Hayato plays a major role in assisting Josuke and Okuyasu as a tactician. When Okuyasu is mortally wounded and Josuke conflicted over whether to risk being blown up by using Crazy Diamond's ability to save him, Hayato throws himself at Okuyasu and sets off the bomb. However, this sacrifice does not lead to his death, as Josuke pieces his body back together before he is able to die from being blown apart.
